Cab removal

Just wondering how difficult it is to remove the cab off of a 97 ext cab F-150, my motor blew up and I have heard it is easier to remove the cab than to just pull out the old motor, Thank You Shawn
one more question, would you recommend a crate motor over a long block? I found a "factory crate" with a 36,000 mile warrany and a long block with a 100,000 mile warranty. Thanks again Shawn

it will probably be a pain in the *** because of the age. I would start soaking the bolts in something to loosen them up asap. as far as the motor goes, what exactly happened to your motor and how many miles did it have on it?

a crate motor will drop right in with just swapping accessories over. the long block will require many parts off your current engine, so you'd be mixing old and new stuff.

do you have any plans to modify the engine at all, or will it stay stock? if you want to get a supercharger/turbocharger/nitrous, you might be better off starting with a decent built long block and going from there, as most crate engines are simply factory replacements.

Thanks Mike, I had 104,000 miles on my motor, I was involved in a front impact collision resulting in $3,600 in damage, after picking up my truck I drove approx 1/2 mile and my motor blew up, insurance said it probably was a result of the accident, but good luck in proving it. So here I am. I really would like to have some minor upgrades, I plan on putting a lift kit on and running 35 inch tires. I paid a guy 2 years ago to fix it, needless to say I am going to pick it up friday and I intend to fix it myself, I have a Hayes/Hanes? manual and alot of Ford oriented friends that are willing to help. Thank You Shawn
