Check Engine Soon

I have a 2002 F150 4.2L 6cyl with 63,827 miles on it. I recently had an oil change at about 62,000 miles and for the first time I used synthetic oil. My check engine soon light went on after I filled up my tank with gas. I already checked the manual and readjusted my gas tank cap. I am about to go to auto zone and have them check the codes. Anyone have any idea if using the synthetic oil for the first time could have caused this?

P1400 code

It has been more than 3 cold starts since the light came on. I just got back from Auto Zone and the code is P1400 (Manufacturer Auxillary Emission Control). The customer service rep told me that it was due to EGR circuit low input. Which could be caused by either the EGR vacuum sylenoid or EGR pressure system. Can anyone tell me what they would recommend doing?

I defnitely need to get my truck to a mechanic I just dont know a reliable one that wont screw me over. Does anyone know a good mechanic nearby Silver Lake, Eagle Rock, Glendale or Hollywood (California)?

I provided diagnostic information on the P1400 code in a thread last month. You can located it by using the ADVANCED SEARCH tool keyword "P1400" and my username.

Thanks ProjectSHO89

Thank You. I actually read your post the day I started my thread. It did help me better understand what these parts are used for but I am not very familiar with fixing my truck myself nor do I have the tools needed. I think I need professional help.

I called Ford to check my VIN to see if I have these parts under warranty and they said I wasnt but I read my warranty manual and it said that the DPFE sensor is covered for 7yrs/70,000 miles. The service tech then told me that thats only for the extended warranty which I dont have.

Arrgggghhhhh!! I dont know what to do. I work all week and cant afford to have my truck in the shop for an extened amount of time...Should I get my truck serviced at Ford or go to a local mechanic? Is my truck going to explode if I drive it to work today?...(I know I am so dramatic).

If you need a DPFE sensor then try these guys. It was $56+ shipped and the dealer wanted $108.00.

I'm the one that projectSHO89 helped out (I believe). It's real easy to change out. Disconnect the battery for 15 minutes or so (and turned on the headlights to drain memory), loosen the two nuts, pull the two hoses (make sure that you don't mix them up) install the new one, reconnect the battery and you're done!
You may have the free floating DPFE so disregard the nuts.

DPFE sensor replacement, Thanks 5.4 F150

So I went to the Ford delarship and I got it checked. It is my DPFE sensor that needs to be replaced. Its not covered in my warranty anymore. Can you believe that they said it would cost me $160 to replace it? Ford sells the sensor for $35 and from the website that 5.4 F150 sent me I could buy it online for $24.78. Since it is easy to install I decided I should do it myself and save a lot of money. Can anyone send me a diagram of the sensors location? I saw a thread that explained where to find it but I dont remember which one it was.

Can I suggest that you purchase a Haynes or Chilton manual?
They are not expensive and contain just about everything you need to know about maintaining your truck yourself.

That item is a bootleg copy of the Ford factory service CD. It is the best possible source of information for performing any service on a Ford that is available.

The legality of the sale of the copy, on the other hand, isn't even questionable.
