Question CEL fixed (DPFE; thanks!!). New issue: occassional vibration.

2002 F150 XLT V8 4.6
---------------------

My CEL light doesn't come on anymore after I replaced the DPFE sensor. 30 dollar item at a Ford dealer, although AutoZone and company wanted 90 for it. New-style DPFE sensor, freefloating, small black plastic matchbox-sized item in the same general area where the old-style is mounted on. Thank you very much to people who helped diagnose it. (OBD-II Codes 172/175, 402). The new-style DPFE pulls out with no problem from the two hoses it's on. Mine was held by an electric ziptie. [If someone needs this info for their trucks].

I have another issue. At random speeds but often at about 40-50mph I get a vibration. It lasts about 20-30 seconds and goes away. The car feels like it's driving on a very bumpy unpaved road -- and then it's normal and very smooth again.

The truck has 53k miles. Some forums said vibrations can mean sparkplugs need to be replaced. It's coming up on the 60k mark, and I dunno if I have the 60k or 100k platinum sparkplugs. Aside from that, what else could cause the vibration like that? Do I need to post more specific information to help diagnose it, and if so, what info?

Best regards,
Corvus-1911

A bad torque converter in your tranny can cause the symptoms you mentioned. It kinda feels like your running over rumble strips.

tranny shudder...

I've had this similar problem. Rather than changing out a potentially bad torque converter, try dropping a bottle of LubeGard in the trans fluid. Fixed my shudder / vibration right away and it hasn't returned since.

Or change the trans oil. I change mine every 25-30k miles. I also had a vibe at 65mph and it was fixed when i put on new tires.
Just my $0.02

So are you saying to just add LubeGard.. just pour it into the TransFluid receiver in the engine?
And.. LubeGard is the brand. What IS it? What do I ask for when I go to AutoZone or wherever?

What do you mean by "pack"? What kind of part was it, or what did it look like, or anything so I can look up what it is?
