on a more seriouse note...i thought and still think that the main improvement of the airbox mod will come with the K&N filter. but the exposed filter should help a little as well. throw a K&N on there and see what happens

Support string, $0.38 cents Pie Pan and Panty hose $ 2.29 the look on all my buddys faces when I opened the hood. PRICELESS, for everything else there is the Recover Card, from the makers of Screw'it'alls the everyday tablet when you just need a break

I think that is true, as long as the truck is moving and the underhood temps are not too high. At idle and slow speed, the intake temperature will soar, and you will get all kinds of undesireable engine adjustments as the computer tries to avoid detonation: reduced timing, richer fuel mixture, etc. But when it's nice and cool...oh boy! But out here we don't get many nice cool days in the summer, unless 90 degrees is cool.

IMO try to maintain the OUTSIDE air intake. Underhood is unpredictable.

Wow I just had a mental pic, If I took 2in pvc pipe. Drilled 2 1/2in holes on either side of the bed. Ran the pipe down past the trany, with a Y of course back up through the bed. Up past the cab from the bed. With (2) 90's pointing foward (towards the hood) paint them Red, place a cherry bomb sticker on both. Wow the ram air would rock.
Nah, but someone will.

Talking Airbox mod

This is my first post, so please bear with me. I did the same basic airbox mod that was posted on this site. I have a 2000 F150 XLT. I have a K&N replacement filter on it. There was definitely an increase in intake noise, but that was something I was going for anyway. I have felt a bit of a boost in the low end. I have been monitoring the engine temperature at idle and at speed, and I have not seen much difference. 10-15 degrees perhaps. I will try and get a few pics of it posted for all to see. now as far as the back woods garage mod that you suggest bhudoff....I was thinking of trying something like that myself. I will let you know how it turns out....or if I blow it up.
