Vortech Supercharger????
Vortech Supercharger????
I was thinking about ordering a Vortech supercharger setup for my 1998 F-150 5.4L and I was wondering if I got one what else I would need to do to my truck like fuel pump, chip or what?
If I were you, I would buy it new so that you get ALL of the parts that you need for the install. I've got some friends that have had bad luck with used ones. With that said, you'll need a new in-tank fuel pump, T-Rex booster pump (comes with kit), larger injectors (best way), and / or a FMU that is sold seperately (if memory serves me correctly) and a custom tune to make sure it's right.
I've got 42 lb. injectors on my Mustang and still had to use a FMU w/ a 4-1 gain and a custom tune. A lot of people just throw the supercharger on and compensate with an in-tank, the FMU, and the T-Rex booster pump and call it good, but I don't agree.
Mod motor supercharger guys jump in and add comments!

Hey 5.4 F150 the kit I looking at buying is brand new the reason I was asking about what else I would need because my buddy can get the kit at wholesale price witch would be about $1,100 so thats why I was asking because its a great deal and Im really thinking about doing it I just wanted to know what more I would need besides of what it comes with. Thanks for the help
That actually sounds like a really good deal! They typically run more for the later models than they do for the earlier 5.0's. I think my head unit alone was $1,500 through the exchange program the Vortech has.
I'd go for it! Just keep in mind that you don't have forged rods & pistons so stay conservative and get a custom tune.
I also noticed that you have a 98'. Have you done a P.I. head swap yet? The performance Improved heads will also get you some more power. Ask your wholesale friend about it.
I'm still learning about the modular motors. I have a Forged 5.4 (331) stroked push rod motor in my 91' Mustang w/ the V2-SQ Trim and I'm very happy with it.
There are others in this forum with superchagers on F-150's and Expeditions. You would probably have more luck in the Aftermarket forum in Superchargers / Turbochargers & Chips / Tuning.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the info but i was wondering whats the difference from the P.I. heads and my stock heads? Im running stock heads but i was thinking about doing the swap. Do the P.I. heads come on any ford trucks stock? And one more thing how much do they run about in price? Thanks

All the newer trucks get PI heads, beginning with late 98 production, I believe, for the Expeditions & F-150s. So some 98s have them, and all 99s and up have them (F250s and F350s may have gotten them a little later).
PI heads are good for like 25 rated HP at the crank. (My 5.4 is rated at 235hp from the factory, while the newer trucks were rated at 260hp).
If you have forced induction, the gains are greater, I don't have PI heads and I'm down about 50hp or so compared to blown trucks with the PI heads. With the blower, I put out about 310hp to the wheels, while the PI trucks are more like 360hp, or even more.
Here's a link to the headswap procedure that some guy documented:

I had an S-Trim on my Mustang, there were 5 other guys in the area that had either S, T or X Trim Vortechs on their Mustangs. Not one of them leaked a drop, and these cars were/are driven hard. Vortech makes a quality blower, no doubt about it.

I think that's a matter of personal opinion! Mine doesn't leak a drop and never has! Do you have one?
