Gas Gauge

My gas gauge is exponential, like the needle goes down fast then slows the closer it gets to empty. So it says i have a quarter tank left but I filled it up and it said i have 15 gallons left with a 25 gallon tank. Is this normal, my moms 4runner had that problem too but not the extent that I do. I guess its kinda a blessing cause i won't run out of gas, but just wondering what is causing this.

You should have about 3 gallons left when you hit E as a reserve(I believe), and this is probably part of the reason why it is not so accurate when it says you have 1/4. You could always ask the dealer if it could be adjusted/fixed.

f/g

I've noticed on most of my Ford's ('98 F150, '94 Mustang, '87 Ranger, '68 Montego, '70 Torino) I seem go through the bottom half of the tank faster than the top half. Almost always a fill-up causes my needle to indicate an amount beyond full...

You have anywhere between 3 and 5 gallons left when the fuel light comes on.

If you look at the tank, you will notice that is is larger at the top and then gets smaller about half way down. My truck does the same thing, I get nearly 200 miles to the half mark, then only about 100-130 to the second half.

Although, 15 gallons left at the 1/4 left mark is kind of odd...

I have a 30 gallon tank, when the fuel light comes on, I have 4 gallons left, very consistent.

I agree with Johngs, 15 gallons at a quarter tank is odd.

2.5 MPG?? Is this just based on your messed up fuel gauge, or actual data? B/C that is serious!
