Throttle cable needs adjusting?

I have about 3/4 inch of play in the throttle cable at the gas pedal if i grab my pedal and pull it all the way up. Basically i am not able to step on the pedal as far as i should be able to.

Also, i am wondering if this is why i was having to floor the throttle while climping the Cajon Pass with a 3500 lb 21ft trailer, but i do realize that my 285 MT tires are not helping at all with the torque.

Does anybody know how to tighten this cable to take the play out of it? I didnt notice any straight forward adjuster near the plenum, or air mast, whatever the throttle body looking thing is called.

Thanks

Wolf

Take the plastic intake tube off so that you can see the butterfly.

With the engine NOT running have someone floor the pedal , then you can see if the butterfly is opening fully.. If it is, then there is no adjustment needed.

ok, will do, makes sense. I just also thought it would be nice to have pedal raised back up into stock position so that when i need to give it just a little gas the pedal will be more responsive instead of having to press so far.

I will check out your idea here in a bit but still interested in knowing how i can get the play out of it still.

Thanks.

I worked for the company that makes these cables. There is no adjustment in the cable, they cannot and should not be adjusted. Check the throttle cam outside of the throttle body. First, take off the snow shield over the throttle body. Have someone (with engine off) push the pedal to the floor, then manually try to rotate the cam further. If the cam is at the max imum travel with the pedal touching the floor, it's right. The pedal should bottom-out just as or just before the cam hits the end stop. This prevents putting too much load onto the throttle body, cam, cable of pedal bracket. Your accel pedal at idle should be 2-3 inches below the brake pedal. It helps identify the brake pedal to prevent the "sudden acceleration" incident.

HI!... I built my own throttle cable adjuster. Works perfect for adjusting the slack. 6 years now with "No" problems.
