Check Engine light is OFF!!!! WOOHOO!!!
after a few different would-be-fixes, my CEL is off and staying off. It was producing a 402 (excessive egr flow) code. Well after replacing the EGR sensor (DPFE) sensor and erasing the code, the CEL never came back on. Its been 500+ miles so far
WOOHOO!!

BTW it was $59 at Autozone and installed in less than 5 mins.

Always good when a little intuition and do-it-yourself saves you money and aggravation.
However, I have to one up you.
I had a P0455, which is a gross leak in the evaporative emissions system, in my new-to-me 1997 F-150 with the 5.4L.
I found that there was some chipping around the rim of the fuel filler neck.
I made a "seal" out of a piece of duct tape folded over and stuck like a flange to the inside of the filler neck. I reset the computer, and voila! no more CEL.
When I replace the fuel cap after refilling, I am careful to make sure that the duct tape seals the chipped area.
Cost: $0 (I already had the duct tape).
