Sounds quite plausible. I'm sure someone with your type of engine will chime in shortly, but you could also go to a Ford dealership Parts department and ask them. The PCV is something you should buy from the dealer because - for some unknown reason - any AutoZone, Discount/Advance, etc. replacement PCVs seem to rattle.

Also, if you're going to be doing your own simple maintenance you should probably go ahead and invest in a DIY manual, such as Haynes or Chilton's (I prefer Haynes). It'll give you easy-to-find simple answers to lots of these types of questions.

Good luck

I wish I had seen this thread last week. My PCV valve on my 5.4 L was buzzing. I searched on here and it said to replace the valve even though it was perfectly clean. I went to AutoZone and bought there $3.20 valve. I put it in and it seemed to have the same noise. My idle does seem to be a little smoother. Should I try to get a Motorcraft PCV valve or should I look into replacing the hoses that go to the PCV valve to get rid of this buzzing?

If it's buzzing it's probably the cheap metal replacement PCV valve. You can get a Motorcraft one from Ford for around $12. For something you only have to replace every 50k-60k (or more), I'd say that's a negligible expense.
