Can anyone help me locate the oil pressure sending unit on my 5.4 triton? I have a new one and I can't find where the old one is to replace it. Also, does anyone have any info on the best way to get to the oil filter to change it? It is kind of a tricky spot. Thanks!

 

Mine on the 4.6 is directly above the oil filter.

Turn your wheels full right.

 

Get the truck up high enough so you can roll under.
Then look up the drivers side of the engine at the back side of the oil filter.
There you will see the sensor with a single wire off it's end.
The connector has a special design to keep it from coming off to easy.
I had to see a connector to see how it unlatches with the help of a long screw driver to manipulate the connector lock.
A deep socket will access the sensor on a log extension.
I now all about this because I installed a fitting manifold to include the original sender and oil pressure sender for a cab gauge.
For those who don't know; the oil indicator (gauge) on the dash is not a working gauge. You will never see it move in relation to pressure changes but it still needs to be hooked up to satisfy the dash micro processor operation as well as the PCM.

 

Thanks for the help guys. I will have to look again. I found the wire but I could not see the sending unit. I will just have to get the truck up in the air more. I was laying on the ground underneath it so it was a little hard to manuever around to find it. I have another question. Once and a while, about every two days when I start my truck up, the oil light will come on and my oil pressure guage says no oil pressure. After I drive it for so long it will bounce from normal to nothing a couple of times, staying at no oil pressure for a minute or two. Eventually it goes to normal and the light stays off. Do you think that it is the sending unit that is doing this?
