What kind of performance can I expect out of a 2000 4.6 F-150?

I am pretty happy with my 4.6. I have no problem spinning my tires in first and second (without popping the clutch) and they are 37s. Lowering the gearing to 4.56 helps a lot too. But I am adding headers, TB, and intake as soon as I finish the rollcage.

crash! on this site use to have a turbo'd 4.6L fully forged and his buddy mark had a 5.4L turbo''d super crew even though there was like a 300lbs or more weight different crash would walk him every time. theres a vid on his website of a street role. but either way bigger engine has more power but takes longer to build RPM. which is why the v10 6.8L and the power stroke have tons of power but are slow cause it takes alot of time to get them heavy parts moving. the only way the 5.4L would be fast is if its a short block and the bore and stoke are the same. with all this the 4.6L will last longer due to less wear on the rotating assembly and less stress on the bottom end cause the stroke is shorter.

I have a 2000 reg cab with the 4.6 that is bone stock and over 90,000 miles on it is fairly quick and can spin tires with no problem but the gas mileage sucks on this thing about 14 city and 18 highway I never have gotten the 15 city or 20 highway it is supose to get acording to the window sticker when I bought this truck in November of 99

I have an 01 supercrew and i took it to the track when i got it and ran a 16.8. i forget the mile per hour but i was very surprised. The last time i ran it i did a 18.2 but my ebrake was holding up and i had on the 20"s. Ive now fixed the ebrake problem, added an intake and exhaust and cant wait to get back to see how it does. Even though its not blistering fast, its always nice to know if i can still take out the rice boys in their honda's.

Just for an update on this I finally drove the truck a few times this week. First off the thing runs awesome, engine is very smooth same with the tranny when it shifts. The performance, well around town it feels fine, I was not flogging on the thing but off the line it feels strong and if you just kick the tranny down a gear at around 40 it has decent pull and pushed you back a bit. On the highway however it was terrible, merging was fine, and once downshifted it had plenty of power but once it shifted into overdrive while cruising at around 60 I could barely get that thing to move unless I kicked the tranny down and even then it did not feel too strong. I am guessing this is because of the tires, but I did not get a chance to get the speed up on the highway due to traffic and if it is anything like my Jeep it would probably pull a bit easier in OD once it is around 70-80 since the RPMs are higher. All in all it feels like it has more torque than my Jeep but overall feels a bit slower. Due to the torque it does not really feel slow (except on the highway) which is good. But I probably wont be buying it now anyway as I fixed my tranny issues on the Jeep by adjusting the throttle valve cable. Overall it is a pretty sweet truck that drives really nice and I would not mind owning it.

Check the power curves for both engines. The 5.4 makes it sooner. I had a 4.6 in my truck and now I have a 5.4. Granted the manual is faster than the automatic. But if you compare an automatic to an automatic the 5.4 will win. My truck now has a 5.4 and let me tell you the 5.4 is a hell of a lot faster than the 4.6. 260 hp vs 220 hp..... 290 ft lbs vs 350, hello?

????????

Are my eyes playing tricks on me? Did I see someone write on here that a 4.6 in an F-150 will beat a 5.4 in an F-150? What the heck are you smokin' buddy? I've had both, 4.6 and 5.4 in the same configuration truck, F-150 SB RC 4x4. My 5.4 would eat my 4.6 for lunch any day!

I agree. The 5.4 has more power and I smoked my buddies 95 Jeep 4.0 with my 2000 5.4 I had. But my other buddy has a 99 4.6 and cant keep up with the jeep. But I dont think his original question involved getting a 5.4 since his dads is a 4.6. You will be happy with the 4.6 but its not a race car for shure.
