gator back

My truck squeals really loud when shifting between gears when i have the throttle pressed to the floor. it doesn't squeal under normal driving conditions, just when i'm really stepping on it. i thought it was the tranny making noise, but was told that it's the serpentine belt, so i went ahead and bought the gator bask belt.

Now, my question is, how do you change it. I have never done one before. THere must be some kind of tension adjustment, right? well, any help getting this belt on would be great.

thanks,
steve

these engines have a self adjusting tensioner. To remove the belt, use a braker bar to move the tensioner pulley off the belt, then slide the belt out. Route the new belt the same way. there should be a sticker under the hood showing how the belt routes around the pulleys.

hey guy, I would go invest the $15.00 and buy a chiltons book. You will use it for other maintenance on the truck. It shows you exactly what to do. If done right it should only take about 15mins. to do.

the pic is from the front of the motor (passenger side front) where you release the tension on the belt. Slip your square end into the release section (in the pic, it would be the "serpentine tool" arrow), release the tension and slip the old belt off. Use the same method in putting the new belt on. Make sure it routes the exact same way for the new one.
If you need to take it somewhere for a shop to do it, if you take the belt to them, shouldnt take 10 minutes and cost maybe 20 bucks
Gatorback belts are dam good belts too--i put one on my 4.6--no more slipping!

Changing the belt is real easy (ive done it what 8 times this month thanks to a creeching pully) anyways like everyone said stick your ratchet in the square slot apply pressure down towards the ground and hold it. As you hold it slide the belt off one of the pulleys and its off. Route your new belt and leave it off of the a/c pull (lowest on passenger side) lay under the truck pull down on your ratchet pull your belt over the a/c pulley and release the ratchet. Make sure the belt is in the grooves of all the pulleys and you are done. Its pretty easy. Hope that helps

Thats 114 words Green. If my picture is worth a thousand words, then you still have another 886 words to go.
