Low Oil Pressure Warning
Low Oil Pressure Warning
My 2004 F150,5.4l with 16k miles has started showing a low oil pressure warning in the display at start up, not every time but more often if the p/u sits for several days and has not been started. The first time to the dealer it did it with them once and they claimed it was 3/4's of a qt low and added this much and would not happen again with them. When I got home and checked the oil myself (engine warmed to op temps), guess what, too much oil. Checked again next AM, still too much. Started p/u moved to a different spot in the driveway, too much. Changed oil and filter myself, 7 qts & M/craft filter. I have driven appox 800 miles and the LOP warning has been on 6 times. Anybody else having this problem or have any sugestions? Thanks, Joe.
Your truck should hold 7 quarts if it's the 5.4. ( I'm sure you know already)
. Since it's under warranty tell them to take another look at it. Either it has a faulty pressure sending unit or it really does have low pressure at startup. Then again, if they overfilled the crankcase once already, you might want to take it to another dealer.

Thanks for the replies guy's. Same problem with 3 Motor craft filters. The truck is at the dealer now and the service writer is supposedly in contact with a "Ford engineer and a motor tech". Let you know what the responce is. Oh I for got to mention if you listen closely a noise or rattle can be heard when the LOP warning flashes on.
I would like to hear from anyone that is having this problem with a 2004 F150 with a 5.4 liter.

No luck at the local dealer, the Service Manager told me that they could not find a problem much less fix it and if I was not satisfied to take it to another Ford dealer. Do I have a Lemon? Joe.
What's not known is what was done to check out the problem.
If a pressure gauge has not been put on and observed, the truck won't majicly tell what is going on, by it'self; and yes, I would try another dealer if that is as well as they think of you as a customer.
