Heater Core Problem = New Engine Solution

I just got back from the dealership and had a look at the old engine. The heads were still on but the intake was off. Where the intake sat there was nothing but rust, debris, and a bunch of junk. I ran my finger over it and got 1/2 an inch of black crud. It looked like the whole area was rusted. Any reason for this on an engine with only 89,000 miles and regular maintenance?

No one has asked so I will be the first. How much if any additional sound equipment do you have in thje truck? Amps, Eq, Subs etc... I have worked in the commercial truck field for a number of years and have seen this problem before. What type of water are they mixing with your coolant if any? Today's engines are a mixture of metals that cause interaction problems. The coolant could be foaming in their passages and not flowing. This causes air pockets that can cause hot spots and erroded components that look like they have melted.
If you do not have any acessesories tha tare causing stray current flow you may want to have the diesel tech at the dealer or in your area look at your old engine and offer his opinion.
