I have a 99 F 150 ,5.4 v/8 ,recently purchased ,it seems to use about a quart of oil ever 2000 miles ,its my first V/8 in many years ,is some oil consumption normal at 97,000

 

These engines do use oil. Some are even using one quart every 1,000 miles. Yours sounds within normal.

 

My truck has 112,000 miles and was using 1/2 quart every 3,000 miles up to this point. Recently, it has started "using" 2 quarts every 3,000 miles!? Normal?

 

About 1 quart/3,000miles is most common. According to Ford 1qt/900miles is acceptable limit. Seems like too much for me!

this might be related and might no but i thought i would ask

my truck has 200k its only used 3 or 4 qts in this duration

one time was while i was trying out synthetic (it was castrol brand) used two qts

another time was when i was testing another brand
(Wal-Mart el cheapo ) one or two more qts

all other times i used castrol 5W30 or 10W30
(except the first 40k used motorcraft 5W30)

now the question, are the one using oil brand specific?
have you switched to another like brand and still using oil?

i'm not saying i don't use/lose oil but the reading at 3-4 k is close to mark. for me it seems like my 4.6 like Castrol regular better than Castrol Synthetic and Wal-Mart Brand.

oh and just to mention using the Wal-Mart brand was a test my brother in law said oil was oil. maybe it is, but my engine didn't like it.

 

I have always changed my oil every 3K-4K miles and have always used the Motorcraft oil filter and 5w 30 oil.

 

Mobil1 for 80K on 99 Lariat and normal driving (hard) without towing and I will be 3/4 quart at my 5k oil change. If I pull a trailer it will burn 1 qt every 3000 miles - always has. I also have two farm trucks that have in the 200K range milage wise and the 4.6 uses a quart every 2000 miles and the 5.4 is about the same - they always are pulling a load and receive harsh treatment.
