Service Engine Soon Light on 01 Navigator

I have a 2001 Navigator and the SES light came on. I took it to the dealer and they told me #6 valve has low compression on it and it will be 4K to repair it!! I can't imagine what could have cause this to happen with such low mileage. Anyone else experienced a similar problem with the 5.4L V8 engine? I could use some advice on what to do. HELP!!!!

Hmmm... Valves don't have compression but they directly affect cylinder compression.

I'd get a second opinion. You can go to a shop and have the code pulled for you, or you can get a code reader. Either way, you'll know exactly what the problem is without having to rely on the stealership's word.

How is your truck running? Do you notice anything different?

Thanks for the recommendation. I asked the shop for the code and they didn't give me one. They stated that it directed them to check the engine compression. I was told cylinder 5 was 185 psi, Cylinder 6 was 110 psi, Cyl 7 162psi , Cyl 8 182psi. I happened to get into the shop today and I looked at 4 of the spark plugs that were removed and they didn't look fouled at all.

I noticed a slight engine vibration during idling but that's it. I took the truck in for 65K service and reported I felt a little vibrating during idling but they said No Trouble Found and returned the truck. Now at 68K I have major engine repair? I am quite pissed right now.

I called the Customer Assistance folks and they opened a case and are suppose to call me later today. I will take your advice and take the vehicle to another shop to have it analyzed. I am going to press Ford on paying for the repair. I don't know what success I will have but I am going for it. I will pay for the fluids (oil, coolant, oil filter) but nothing more. I hope they will stand behind there product.

Where can I purchase the code reader from. I guess I also will need a tech manual to dicpher the codes.

They probably have cleared the code and you won't be able to read it until the "SES" light comes on again.
You can purchase the code reader at most auto parts places, Pepboys, Autozone etc. The code reader itself will give you a brief description of the code.
Autozone will scan your truck for free. You can do that and post the code here on the forum and many members can tell you what it means.
If the compression readings are as stated, there is a problem with the #6 cylinder.

Just go to a parts store like AutoZone, they will read the codes for you for free. Just take some pen and paper and write it down, come back here and see what it turns up.

Got the Code P0306

The SES light came back on and I went to Autozone to get the code read. It came back P0306. I took the truck to a Ford dealer and they replaced the coil on #6. However a day later the SES came back on with the same code. This dealership is telling me that the #6 cylinder in losing compression also.

I have tried going through the Lincoln Commitment people for help with the repair and they refuse any assistance. I was told I should have purchased a warranty. It is frustrating that a truck with 68K needs a major engine repair. In essence Ford/Lincoln is telling me to buy another brand that is reliable.

Burnt exhaust valves on #2 bank mostly are somewhat common concerns with the 5.4 4V engine. Gonna take a replacement head or a valve job to fix it, sorry. If you've got documented maintenance records, you could try requesting after warranty assistance with your servicing dealer.
