Well, I think it would be a good idea to keep using Motorcraft 5w-20 or an equivalent. The only other maker I know of that has 5w-20 is Castrol, but as far as I know, other makers like Mobil 1 has a 0w-20 that claims to meet the specs of Motorcraft 5w-20. If you are changing the oil yourself and having trouble finding the Motorcraft 5w-20, check your local parts stores. Wal-Mart used to carry Motorcraft (really cheap) but has stopped. Check O'Reilly, Auto Zone, or Advance auto parts (or others in your area). You do not have to get the oil from your Ford dealer. These Triton engines need a good 0w-xx or 5w-xx for a good cold startup. This oil gets to your cylinders and valve train fast when cold, and this is CRITICAL. Also, you will need to be sure to use a good oil filter with an anti-drainback valve, so that the time it takes for the oil to get to those parts is minimized. Of course, Motorcraft is a brand that has exactly that kind of oil filter. I do not know about other filters.

Good luck

Valvoline makes a Durablend 5W20 that I have been running. It meets the Ford standards. It can be hard to find but I have been seeing it pretty regular at advance and autozone both.
