Lightning Cluster In Reg F-150?

HI!... Just wondering if any of you "L' guys have seen or heard anyone do this mod. I know there used to be people on this site that have done this. My factory gauge cluster needs to be replaced due to a short that keeps causing the truck to stall occasionally. Also the digital odometer fades in and out when the truck stalls. I went to the dealer today and the LIGHTNING cluster is basically the same price as the regular F-150 cluster. Now I have a "99" F-150 with tach but the dealer only shows a "CANADIAN" (KPH)LIGHTNING cluster for "2000" and up. Will the "2000" work in my "99"??? I have all white face AUTO METER gauges and would like the cluster to match. Also my speedometer is useless due to I can bury it 3/4 the way through 3RD gear! LOL! My question is, is it a direct bolt in? I know I will lose the voltage gauge due to the boost gauge. Not like the factory volt meter is good anyway. Don't even care if the "L" cluster boost gauge doesn't work. I have a AUTO METER boost gauge already. I also realize that it will have to go to the dealer to be put on the NGS STARTESTER to set everything up properly. The trucks already going in to the dealer to set-up a new PCM I bought for the truck. Figured I'd do both at the same time. Now for the hardcore "LIGHTNING" posey>>>>>>> The "SVT" emblem on the cluster (TACH) WILL be covered by a spiecal "FORD" sticker (overlay) that I'm having made up. I will not try to tell anyone I have a LIGHTNING......... Any help on this would be great.

HI!... Well I just got off the phone with a buddy of mine STEVE (SVT STEVE) who does F-150 to LIGHTNING conversions. The "2000" LIGHTNING gauge cluster is a direct bolt-in for my truck. The boost gauge can be hooked up by running a vacuum line to it behind the dash. All rear electrical plugs are the same. It's basically a reg F-150 gauge cluster (except boost gauge) with a different overlay on it. The dealer's NGS STARTESTER will calibrate it to work with my new PCM. Well I guess I'm ordering that on MONDAY. Not bad, my dealer only wants $289(CAN) for it with my clusters core exchange.

HI!... Thanks guys, but I'll get a new one from my dealer. I refuse to buy electronic items used.

FASTERF150 : You won't be able to run a HD or LIGHTNING gauge cluster in your truck due to they are equipped with a digital odometer and yours is the older dial style. You will have to stick with a "97 - "98" cluster.

i found out it is doable to put a lightning speedo in my truck the milage and whatnot is still saved in the ecu. and the connector in the back of the cluster is the same. or so ive seen. in the dashes ive torn appart with dad at his work.

but if i put a new cluster in it will need more revs ill likely try to put one in from a cobra or a mustang GT. so once i get my motor built i can see the engine rev to 7500+ rpm. and not just pegs the tach out at 6 for a while lol.

HI!... Yes I had it installed at the dealer. They have to hook it up to the NGS and mate the cluster to the PCM and the GEM module. Took about 45 minutes. Bolted right in in like 10 minutes. BTW the LIGHTNING cluster still won't work in "98" and older trucks. Something to do with the way FORD's routed the PATS system. That's what the two electronic techs at the dealer told me. They have tried it but it doesn't work.

Id still get an aftermarket boost gauge (assuming you were just going to use the stock one). They are about as accurate as the oil press, temp, and volt gauges on these trucks. In other words, worthless pretty much.

HI!... Yes the boost gauge is mechanical. It has a vacuum hose nipple on the back of the cluster. As for having a higher speedo......... it was fun with my old 5.4 engine but I'm back to the same situation with the new built 5.4. I can hit 210KPH in 3RD gear and that's with 4.10 gears and 28" tall NITTO's out back. The speedo only goes to 220KPH. I'm also going to be installing a T-76 turbo set-up on this truck later on, so the speed will most likey be getting buried in 3RD gear after that! LOL!

i guess u can keep the stock cluster as an excuse for when u get pulled over " seriously officer how could i go 165mph in a 60. look my truck will only go 100mph. are u sure u just didnt read the gun wrong "
