DPFE Question

Hey guys. Got a quick question for you. Could the DPFE sensor be faulty causing an EGR surge that feels like a miss in the mild throttle 35-55mph range and then at interstate speeds(65-70mph) and not pop the SES light on?

Thanks.

Dale

A dpfe sensor can cause all kind of confusion to the computer over time and not set a code or put the light on. 2001 fords have an extended warenty on the dpfe they are faulty. Our family has 3 fords and they all have been replaced only one set the light my f150 did all kind of strange things idle surge etc. Get dealer to replace it only take 30seconds to replace.

Ok, my local dealer knows nothing of an extended warranty on the DPFE so thats out. Here are my findings on my misfire/surge so far.

1. I checked the plugs, replaced with Autolite Platinum gapped at about 0.055.
2. Did a visual inspection on COP/boots found no evidence of carbontracking, moisture damage, however no. 7 plug and boot had rust on them.
3. Checked resistance on COPs terminal to terminal got a reading within specs on each one. Tested terminal to spring within specs as well.
4. Finally got an SES light with a PO307. Pulled that coil and inspected, still passed a visual, swapped it with # 1. Cleared codes and road tested. 2 weeks and still no light on, same old coil on #1. Leaning toward the EGR system.
5. Checked EGR Valve, valve moves freely, holds vacuum.
6. Checked DPFE Ohms across terminals, got 34.5 ohms. Dont know if that helps figure it out or not but I'm outta ideas.
7. Checked for voltage at DPFE connector, getting 14.01V at connector with KOER.
8. Unhooked DPFE sensor, started and let run for 10 minutes, no SES or running problems, (I know it wont affect the running until going down the road but I wanna post all the info I can).
9. Drove appr. 4 miles through various road conditions of normal driving, (uphill w/AC, freeway, rural, etc...) still no SES light even under hard acceleration. I want to peg the blame on the DPFE sensor but based on the info I just splattered out here hopefully someone can help diagnose this mess, I just dont have the extra dough to take it to a shop or my dealer right now. My aftermarket warranty has a $100 deductable and I got bills due right now.

Thanks for any help that can be given or even suggestions on other routes to take. Oh BTW, I also tested the injectors terminal to terminal and got readings within specs on them too. I think it was like 15.6 or somethin in OHMS. Fuel pressure is good also, even while driving. So I am comfortable saying that that system is A-OK.

Thanks guys

later

You can get a DFPE sensor at advance auto parts for $56. They call it EGR valve position sensor. Its worth a shot.

You can get a new DPFE sensor from the Ford dealer for $40. Less than the one's at the auto parts stores.
