Smile New To The Forum

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this forum. I had originally posted "In Another Misfire....". I have pretty much a similar problem as everyone else has had in the forum about misfires and no codes and it's been driving me nuts for a couple of weeks now. I don't really have the money to take it to a dealer right now so I've been doing my best at trouble shooting it myself. A code scanner doesn't do you any good if there's no codes so, I bought a Haynes manual and started trouble shooting with an volt / ohm meter (which I'm not to sharp at). How can you tell if the resistance on the cop's is good or not? I've got 0.6 - 0.7 on primary, and 5.32+ to 5.4 on the secondary. Haynes Manual says 0.55 & 5500 on secondary. Since the readings weren't "Exactly" as the manual states, I'm not sure if they're good or bad.
Thank You in advance for any advice that can be given on the subject. There's a lot of good information here and I now understand a lot more than I did a few months ago.

You can call them good at the readings you have.
The meter, if not a very expensive lab type, has an accuracy tolerence of +/- some small percentage as should be shown in the manuel with the meter.
Your readings are less than 1% difference from spec, which is within any reasonable tolerence limits.
If you have not changed plugs and inspected boots etc. you may not clear the misses if that is what is happening.
There are some actions a home operation cannot avoid taking unless you get lucky.
Miss codes are not set because they are intermittant and clear while in a drving cycle or are not the results of ignition failure but some other intermittant fault such as water in the fuel.
Since you have no codes, I can say only some opinion.
Good luck

Thumbs up

Thanks Bluegrass. I was in another thread and "Johngs" actually helped me out with the info that I wanted to know. I've ordered a full set of the silicone boots (since some of them don't look so hot) and will proceed with one last attempt at curing the misfire on my own and, if I don't gets the results I want, then I'll go to Ford and ask them to use their "WDS" on a road test and that should definately find the problem!

I've also got a Stroked and Supercharged 91 Mustang that I bought new, and I've never had the amount of intermittant, pull your hair out, kind of bull that this truck has given me in the last couple of months. The only thing that my Mustang had was a faulty door chime that went off everytime I washed it (and stayed on until it dried out) but, was quickly fixed by Ford within a week.

I love my truck! and I just want it to be the way it was before!

Thanks Again, Sean
