head gasket leak
head gasket leak
98 f150 4.6 been having a trickling sound in the heater core.
found out that i have a head gasket leak. started about 5 months ago. dealer machanic sudjested that i get rid of the truck. i do run the truck hard my mods are custom exhaust and a hypertech programmer. what do you guys think? i do want a f250 diesel 4x4 supercab.
The machanic said to put some kind of sealant in the coolant to stop the leak or just 2 table spoon of black pepper.
If i do this before i trade truck in, would they notice some sealant in the coolant?? truck drives fine no leaks in the oil. just air in the heater core.

I have used bars leak and gotten a few more miles out of it before I could get to the repairs. I have heard of peper before never done that one also on a car show a few weeks ago they mentioned egg whites to seal a coolant leak. That was a new one to me but makes since as the egg white would boil when it hit the air from the leak and would swell to plug the leak. But in reality if it's just a head gasket they are ussally only $10 at the auto store and a day or less for a shade tree mechanic to change. Faster for a mechanic with a shop that does it more often
If you choose to change it don't forget to get the valve cover and intake gasket too.
