I had a 1971 LTD with the 400 in it (2 door BTW..).. It was only a 2bbl and had a 2.73 rear end, but that thing did pretty good... I think it did have 9:1 compression and was pre smog stuff, so no nothing on it that way!!

It was my highschool car, so it got a lot of abuse!! I 'rebuilt' it when it was down to running on only 6 cylinders and it came back to life pretty good... Still had the 2bbl, but I added some dual exhaust and a "RV" cam.... It had some good low end and that's what got the 'boat' moving.. I took on Javelins with 290's in them and Mustangs with 289's in them and didn't lose... Ah, those were the days back in the early 80's!!
