supercharging 5.4L 3v

I notice that Roush now offers the bolt on supercharger for the 2005 5.4L. Is this a "true" bolt on mod? I would like to know what the other considerations are like improved gas mileage? Engine life? Will a new hood be required? Has anyone done an aftermarket supercharger and what are your experiences?

I already have a Gibson SS single side swept exhaust, Air-raid intake and I have ordered a Hypertech programmer.

PS. This forum has been extremely educational and I for one enjoy just reading all the advice, experience or just plain ole ribbing!

How would it not void the warranty? Virtually any mod voids it...even his programmer voids the warranty.

I'd like to see a link to this, it would be nice if it was true.

I think I read in one of the magazines that it would be a dealer installed thing. I don't think it "voids" the warranty, but I would guess that it will effect what the fine print says/means. Actually, I believe that's how all warranties work. If you were to do a search in the Chips section, you will find several discussions about mods and warranties. It can be helpful to understand how the warranty works. I think I also read that the Roush kit is super expensive.

It's just a matter of time before the aftermarket has done the necessary testing and we will have several choices. Apparently these 3 valvers are a different bird from our 2 valvers. It's going to take some time for the aftermarket to bring it up to speed.

I will look for the info, but if you go to roush's website, it says 3 year warranty on 5.4 3v supercharger....

Frontier Ford in Santa Clara has 10-20 kits in stock, and they install them. Service manager was unavailable, but I am pretty sure that if its dealer installed, its warrantied, just like the Lightning. They know these engines can handle the superchargers, with the 7 years the lightnings have been out.

If the dealer installs it, then you get a warranty from the dealer on their installation.

Also, if the supercharger fails you are looking at warranty from Rousch, since its not a Ford warranty.

I would not compare this to the Lightning, since it comes with a supercharger from the factory, its not a dealer option like the Rousch kit is.

The Dealer that installs the S/C is authorized by Roush to do the warranty repairs that may be necessary.
