Spark plug removal

For those who have attempted to remove the spark plugs in a 97 and up F-150 knows how difficult it can be. My first attempt was today and it started out okay at first. The first plug on the passenger side came out easy enough. Put the new one in it's place and attempted the second one. For some reason, the socket would not go around the spark plug. It was almost like something was in the hole keeping the socket from seating around it so I could loosen it up. Got my flashlight but it's hard to see all the way down the hole. Couldn't see any trash in the hole, but it almost feels like rubber when I try to press the 5/8's down in there. Very frustrating. Tried another plug on the driver's side and I got the same thing. It's bad enough that they're hard to get to, but when the when you can't get the socket around the plug, that just compounds the problem. Anyone else ever had this problem? It's almost as if the tip of the boot is stuck down in the hole keeping the socket from going around the plug, but the boot looks completely intact.

Thanks.

I had the same thing happen,it ended up to be a little rock that fell down the hole when I took the plug boot out.
The rock jammed beside the plug making it impossible to put the socket on. It took hour worth of swearing to get that rock out.

try using a reg. deep well socket, without the rubber bushing in your plug socket it might fit over.
GOOD LUCK

There's probably some dirt collected inside the plug well.

Try shooting some compressed air in there.

The last time I changed my plugs part of the spark plug boot on #4 broke off and wa wrapped around the plug. It took about an hour and a half with dental picks to get the pieces out of the hole so I could get the plug socket on the plug.
