4.6L V-8 Question...

hey guys. I have a 2004 f150 with the 4.6L....is it just me or our these engines loud when they idle?? All I hear mostly is that darn engine fan most of the time and it's always on even if I start my truck up with it's -20 OUT!! I step on the gas, and I can hear the engine fan go up to a very high speed, and then when I let off the gas, the fan goes back to low, but goes back up high as soon as I hit the gas again. Plus I hear a bunch of ticking noises in the engine besides the fan, and some kind of knocking from underneath the truck. My trucks got a little over 3K miles on it. Anyone else know if this is normal?

That's normal Triton. The fan clutch has to warm the fluid inside of it before it can respond properly to the air temp. coming through the radiator. Electric fans are always an option. Better gas mileage and a power boost too.
