What is the recommended oil for a 2001 5.4L?

Thanks

Ford states 5W20 synthetic blend. That's what I used for mine and no problems. Using it on my 04 also.

Always refer to your owner's manual for specifications and capacities. 5W20 synthetic blend is what is called out. There are many manufacturers of this weight - Motorcraft seems to work just fine in the 5.4L engines. I hear that if you take your own container(s) to the FORD dealership they will sell you this oil from their bulk storage for a very reasonable price (since Wal-Mart no longer carries it).

No matter what you see or hear about extended oil changes, it is advisible to follow the tried and true method - filter and oil at least every 3,000 miles. It's an inepensive way to keep your investment on the road.

Yes, Ford says use 5W20, do you know the real reason why Ford recommends 5W20? Cause every year the Federal Goverment CAFFE STANDARDS on gas mileage keep going up, and the only way Ford meets this std. is that you use 5W20 motor oil. NOW if you switch to "Amsoil Series 2000, 0W30 Synetheic Motor Oil" you will EXCEED Ford's oil requirement, it offers the same and exceeds the limit on any 5W20, plus ur engine will have "0" wear. Yea, Yea, I know, u guys are going to pick on me about the "0" wear, but I have proof, just go to "Amsoil.com" and look at the test results on the "4 ball wear test", and read the letters about the engine mechanics that tore down engines that used Amsoil, after 100K miles with "0" wear. Oh yea, I forgot, read he letters about the Truckers that busted their oil pans and lost all their Amsoil, and they still ran their trucks without oil with no damage, cause they used Amsoil.

Ford has changed their oil suggestions to 5w20 for ALL years of the 5.4L engine (I think they did for the 4.6L engine as well).

Another Amsoil commercial???

Why does Ford recommend the 5W/20 for all modular V6 & V8 engines that originally required 5w/30?

The CAFE numbers have nothing to do with older Ford engines, so why would Ford risk ruining their reputations by recommending 5W/20 on trucks it didn't have to?

The reason is because the modular V6 and V8 can suffer from possible upper valvetrain oil starvation if the oil is too thick, and that 5W/20 is better on those modular engines. The reason why Ford only recommended 5W/30 up to the 2000 model year is because that was the lightest oil available at the time. Once 5W/20 became available, they went to that.

BTW – Here is even Amsoil getting into the 5W/20 thing, ironic isn’t it?

I'm calling a gigantic BULL***** on this one.

If you drain the oil out of your engine, you not only lose lubrication, you lose the cooling and heatsink effects of the oil as well. You going to tell me those engines saw no wear too ?? BS !!!

Please stop with the moronic Amsoil commercials. It is not a fix-all for everything oil-related. Engines that run it do have some wear and tear. Read the letters on the Amsoil site. They do not state that there is NO wear - they state that even with extended drain intervals the parts wear is comparable to the wear seen in engines with oil changes done at "normal" intervals.

I am not saying it isn't a good lubricant - I am saying your infomercials about it are becoming tiresome...

No, you see, they probably used the dishsoap trick to fix any wear done after they replaced their pans, since no engines need rebuilding, you just have to pour some dishsoap in the plug holes and it fixes it right up.

MotoF150 should be forever banished from posting here, since everything he posts is either an Amsoil ad or a retarded-as-hell redneck jimmy-rig fix tip.

Moto F150. . . .

Stop with the endorsements of Amsoil. If folks here want to use it, they will. You commercials have done nothing but become extremely annoying.
