grantcool - I believe Ford refers to them as Modular because many of the parts are interchangeable between the 4.6 and 5.4 engines.

ummm, the way i think of it is the cyl and the heads are seperated from the engine block, where you can bolt up bigger cyl and heads to the same block. Remember back in the early 70's? Yamaha made a 125 and a 175 Enduro Bike, it was the same engine, except the 175 had a bigger cyl and head. If they made Amsoil 2 stroke oil back then, these bikes would still be running today.
