identifying my 5.4s cylinder numbers
identifying my 5.4s cylinder numbers
I have successfully changed my spark plugs on my 98' 5.4, I researched this job on these forums before I started so I knew what to expect and got it done without incident.
The CEL was on right before I did this and it would have an obvious misfire at idle while in gear. I figured this was because I had 92k miles on the original plugs so I changed them and now the CEL has come back on again.
Now when I changed the plugs I inspected the heater hose that typically leaks onto the back COP and it was dry but I tightened it slightly more to make sure it stays that way. And for further insurance I swapped the COP from the front passenger side with the COP on the rear passenger side, that way if it needed to be changed as well it would be easy to get to when I went back in.
I haven't checked the codes yet but when I do I expect it will say misfire in cyl. #X so I need to know which cylinders are which on the 5.4, I've looked over the site and found nothing.

From my understandin the cylenders ar numbered 1-4 on the passenger side and 5-8 on the drivers side Sounds as though you may have a hole in the coil boot that goes over the plug you can buy these seperatly make shure you use a generous glob of dieletric grease in the boots before you install.
