Click the links. A few guys there tried it. One guy had to replace some plastic thing in his tank...something like that.

Some additives already have acetone in them. Some carb cleaners, stuff like that.

I'll stick to things specifically made for fuel in motor vehicles. These may or may not have acetone.

I use Fuel Power from Lube Control distrubotors. No acetone in it, though.

Racerman, this is just for you and your friends.

I tested the effects of just 4 oz in 20 gal of 87 octane gas, about a momth ago.
Drove the truck 180 miles with my son driving.
On the way back he said the engine is pinging. I said that's interesting. He said, how so. I said, I added acetone to the gas to see if there was any effects.
He could hear the ping, I could not since he is much younger.
Now there is one of your proofs that it has no benifical effects except posseably as a cleaner.
My son heard the effects and didn't even know about this before hand.
Now, what I can tell you with 99% certainty is the acetone adds oxygen to the combustion process making the fuel to air ratio leaner hence the pinging. Further more the oxygen sensors pick this up and attemot to make fuel injection richer to bring back the 14.7 a/f ratio that is designed into the system. This increases total fuel consumption over time.
The oxygenated fuels with MTBE that were mandated in some states, some years ago, have been recinded for more than a number of reasons.
None of this has anything to do with surface tension.
That's why you article is total B.S.
Now your still free to call me a trouble maker but you had better get your sh*t right before you say it again.

Racerman, to get back to your original post:

I read the article I emailed to you and I accepted the findings that, perhaps, acetone would improve my engines performance. I do not believe, however, acetone is the cure all for improvements in performance. Other literature I have also read discussed the different "grades" of fuel (such as Chevron, Citgo, Texaco, Shell, etc.). My reason for trying the acetone was to reduce/eliminate pinging in the engine. One of my plugs was deformed and I began searching for the detonation "cure". I no longer have pinging when I use 89 octane and 7 oz to every other tank. I have tried changing fuel sources (Chevron vs Citgo, etc.) with/without acetone and I have also tried 87 and 89 octane and different sources.

I have found 89 octane and 7 oz. of acetone to every other tank has eliminated pinging; 87 octane with 7 oz. acetone and 89 octane alone resulted in continued/reduce pinging, respectively.

Cost was also a consideration: 32 oz can treat roughly 180 gallons if 7 oz are added to every other 20 gal. purchased. That's $4.50 at Lowe's for the quart or $.03 increase per gallon of fuel.

Actually, that's my .02 worth. I do hope I got the math right! And take it for what it's worth.
