V-10 Power issues
V-10 Power issues
I'm hoping that someone may have an idea on this matter. At work one of the trucks we are using for a PD ESU truck is a 2000 Excursion with the 6.8 V-10. It has almost 150,000 miles on it and aside from normal maintenance / wear and tear items, it has been the best vehicle we have used. Recently we've been experiencing a problem with power to the truck, so much so that it can't get out of it's own way sometimes, and today had a problem going up a hill at anything over 15 MPH - normally it could take this same hill at 60+. Now I know about the coil pack issues and within the past 5,000 miles all 10 of them have been changed out by our mechanics, in addition to fuel filters, and the fuel pump. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions of other areas to check? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i would recommend telling them to clean the MAF sensor, it shouldnt caust THAT much trouble but try it and see if you gain anything back. also tranny and oil levels right? have them compression check the cylinders, check plugs to make sure their working and also maybe want to look at o2 sensors. the o2's i would think would cause problems all the time but it doesnt hurt to check them out anyways. did they use the factory ford COP or did they skip out and go with the cheapies? i have heard that the factory ones are the ones to stick with... i have heard nothign but trouble with other brands. also maybe seafoam to clean the fuel system out and clean the injectors!
Loss of power with no other symptoms. Check the manifold vacuum at idle and 2500RPM. If its lower at 2500 or falls off over time, suspect a plugged cat or restricted exhaust. If it is just low, suspect the timing set skipped a tooth.

Thanks!
Thanks for all of the advice. I have forwarded these possible items to our mechanics so that they can resolve the problem (hopefully!).
I appreciate all of the help.

Well, here is what they have done so far:
- replaced the mass airflow sensor
- replaced the idle air control valve
The truck has been running well for the past day and seems like it is back to normal. I will keep you all posted on any further progress.
Thanks again for the advice.
