Squeaking belt!

Thats me. Ive got one and its driving me nuts!

Changed the belt. Still squeaks. Changed the tension pulley.. still squeaks...and belt dressing only made it louder (old and new one).

Help! Could it be oil / grease on the pulleys, a bad tensioner? Since the dressing only mad it worse, I am guessing it isnt a bearing anywhere (it doesnt sound like a bearing.. had one of those before. sounds like a belt!)

Could be a bad bearing; either the idler pulley, alternator, or PS pump.

Try removing the belt and spinning all the pulleys by hand...see if any of them produce the sound or if you can feel any sort of resistance that shouldnt be there.

Thanks for the help guys. I did a little "test" last night (dont laugh! hehe) Tell me what you think..

This fella told me that cheap belt dressing is the suck and to use a "drop" of disksoap. So its squeaking and I apply a tad on the flat side of the belt (while running). It starts to get quiet but is still rather noisey. I apply another drop but on the ribbed side. Helped yes, but still there. Turned it off and let it sit then back on. ..still sounds like aliens are landing. I put a "couple" more drops on the belt and the noise was gone! then after about 15 seconds, so was the belt! It slung off !

No harm done to the truck or the belt cause I was johnny on the spot. Cleaned off the belt and wiped down the pulleys and reinstalled the belt.

I checked all the pulleys, alt., pumps, etc. Nothing is giving me any friction.. nothing is hard to turn and nothing is loose or rattling. My next mission is to completely clean all the pulley surfaces with.. I guess brake cleaner. This started a day after I checked my tranny fluid and oil. I was wondering if a drop or two of tranny fluid or oil could have fallen onto a pulley or something...

Try a little WD40, it stops the squeeks and is good for the belt.

#1 cause is pulley misalignment. First to look at is the PS pump sheave - its a press-on fit, isn't it?

Take a piece of tubing and hold one end to your ear and wave the other around looking for the source. Be VERY careful!

It sounds like you may want to look at buying a Gatorback belt.

Well.. round 3.. or 4 .. or 5 .. not sure what it is at the moment.. and no luck. I am strongly beginning to suspect the alternator. I will take it to have it tested ..soon.
