Unhappy There goes the Motor money

There goes the money I had put away for a build short block.

I had a mishap with a U-joint last weekend and it failed catastrophically at 70 MPH. The drive shaft did not drop out but did bang the hell out of things before I got it stopped. I thought I got away with no damage and just replacing the U-joint, WRONG.
Yesterday on the way to work, again at 70 MPH the transmission broke in half. Yes you read that right, THE TRANSMISSION BROKE IN HALF . The tail piece broke off taking the rear half of the transmission with it. I don’t need to tell you what that did. Nothing is salvageable.
The guy at the transmission shop said it probably had a stress crack after the U-joint failure. I was ******* it a little and jumped from on lane to the other with a fast down shift and BAM, the case just could not hold the stress.
Now I am facing another rebuild. Not only that but I have to get a core transmission from a salvage yard to rebuild because the case BROKE IN HALF!!!
I’m stuck so I have to go with a stock rebuild. There goes my performance transmission and my motor money.
Oh well. Live and learn…

If you were going to get a performance transmission, why not just buy one now?

Johngs,
I had a performance transmission. Put it in about 8000 miles ago with a 2300 stall converter.
I can't wait for delivery of another performance transmission because this is my daily driver and I have to get it running ASAP.
The last time I ordered the transmission and had it installed at my leisure.
Right now I am in a rental car at $50 a day while my truck gets a new transmisison...

Oh, I misunderstood your post. I thought you had a stock tranny and were planning to upgrade it later along with the engine.

That sucks either way, good luck.

Well I got the truck back today. $1875 total for a core and rebuild with rebuilt converter.
It runs smooth but it is definitely not the performance transmission I had in it ...but...then...I had forgotten how comfortable the transmission use to be.
It really is nice and easy, may be better as a daily driver. The shifts are still controlled by Mike Troyer's tune but no more slamming into gear. Oh well, I guess I'll drive it like this for say 100,000 more miles...
Also, three days in a rental car showed me that I am for sure a truck guy to the end. I had a new Neon. It had less then 1000 miles on it and I would not trade it for my 175,000 mile truck.

Glad you're back on the road, keep your truck vs a Neon? AMEN!!
I know what you mean about the shifts. I have a blower and a Interceptor trans from Transmissioncenter, sometimes you just miss that smooth ride.

01screw,
I also had an Interceptor trans from http://www.transmissioncenter.net/. When I first got it it was brutal. Was a little better after putting back in the stock 1-2 accumulator springs. It still shifted hard but was better then the way they delivered it.
Now it shifts is as smooth as a baby's a$$. There is a difference in the performance though. The truck was faster before. I guess I will live with it for now.

Exactly the same thing I did with the 1-2 springs!! When you feel the need, maybe pop in a FTVB.
