i took mine to the dealer today and had a round with them they let on like they havent heard of this problem with these trucks when i asked if they could help with the coast they said no now thats a bunch of bull so im going to have to go past the dealer and on up the ladder anybody know any numbersa that i could call oh thats a nice bass in the picture
Sounds like a class action lawsuit to me....i ran into the same problem...first time in the dealership they told me the leak was cause by the oil change guy missing the oil fill tube and dumpiing oil in a trough behind the valve cover...not to worry it would go away..well now it's worse...i can't drive the truck with the windows up...the oil is dripping on the exhaust and smoking up the cab...especially, when i turn on the panel vents, heat or AC...still gets in the cab without any of that on...gotta keep the windows open...took it back to the dealer and they want $1600 to repair it...won't cover it under my extended warranty because i brought it in 2 weeks after it expired - even though the problem was happening before i brought it in and they know this is a problem...called Ford Customer Service 800-392-3763...same answer...past warranty...SOL...i've been driving Fords since 1987 (Three E150s and this Truck)...this is the LAST FORD PRODUCT I'LL EVER PURCHASE...and i'll be dumping it soon as i can....think it's time for a Toyota...maybe Chevy....

Oil Leak
It sounds like a rear main leaking, the flywheel throws it on the right side on the starter usually and it leaks on the ground. The way the flywheel slings it, it doesn't appear to be coming from the rear main but it is.

Well I had the same problem with my truck and decided it wasn't worth the trouble and expense to fix it. However I didn't want to take a chance at loosing value by it messing up the engine. Therefore I traded it in on Friday and said the hell with it! When I do get my next truck I will be leasing and ginving it back so if it decides to leak it will not be my problem!

Got a 2000 4.6 v8 and head gasket went out at 25k, under warranty. Just hit 59k and noticed a oil smell, head gasket is gone again. Ford told me to take it to the garage, the garage told me to kiss off. Between this, the door crack, and the cruise control recall, I am done with ford. This was the sixth Ford that either myself or wife have owned. She just got a Hyndai Santa Fe,(THAT DRIVES LIKE A TANK IN THE SNOW!!!!) and I am going to toyota.
Guys its not that big of a deal. For the original poster if your out of warranty why should Ford have to pay? I understand your frustration but it is a mechanical thing and they can't just fix it forever.
I have been through this type of thing and you just need to find the right shop to help you. Or you need to tackle the problem yourself which I usually do. I once traded in a 99 Grand Cherokee because of a differential leak/bearing problem and I lost my butt big time! I would have been better off getting it fixed by a good mechanic and moving on.
