7quarts? Help
6 quarts will fill it to the correct level. As long as it is between the marks it is good. Some people fill it with 6 1/2 quarts to the top line. make sure the dip stick is pushed down all the way when you check it.
It it better to be under filled than over filled.

A lot depends on how well you drain it as to how much you put back in. I used to **** my 88 way up in the air and let it drain for a couple hours while I was doing other things and it held all of 7 qts. The 01 when I did that held 6.5 as well. Just fill it till you are in the operating zone while the truck is on level ground. That is all that matters.
7 qts
I have a 1997 with a 5.4 engine. If I put 6 in it, it barely reads on the dipstick. I have been adding a 7th qt the past few changes. I was under the impression that you used the dipstick to tell if It needed oil or not. If 6 isn't doing the trick, I'd add more until it reads where it is supposed to.
Six quarts! Not 6.25.......not 6.5.......not even 7! SIX!!!!!!! Whats that number between 5 and 7? 6!!!!!!!!!!! Whats 4+2=6....... 8-2=6...... 3x2=6........ SIX!!!!!!!!!

I had to lengthen my dipstick on my 88 5.0 and I'm going to need to lengthen the dipstick on this truck as well. I used 7 last time because that's where the full line was. This time I'll put in six and then adjust the dipstick until it reads full.
