Ford shelved the Hurricane engine...
Anybody have more details? I Read a blurb about it on Blue Oval, they reference an article from Ward Auto News, to which I do not have access.
I am all in favor of more power and torque especially when its factory backed, so this is a little disappointing to me. Has anyone here actually read the article in Wards? If so can you enlighten the rest of us?
Thanks

I kinda think a lot of articles on BON are meant to stir up a little controversy; the article itself doesn't really cite who leaked to them that the Hurricane project had been axed, other than it was a "Ford employee." This could have been one of the engineers on the Hurricane project...might have been the guy emptying trash cans down the hallway.
Competition improves the breed...with stiff competition from Chrysler, Nissan, and eventually GM, I wouldn't be surprised if a hotter engine option was available in F-Series pickups further on down the road. Just common sense.

The "Hurricane" name was never confirmed to begin with. There were and are several different "names" for this project. It is not dead, stand by and see what developes over time. Trust me...
oh I dont care what they call it, as long as it has frame bending torque and at least 50 more hp on 87 octane I will be a happy camper.

Blue Oval News is a great website, but things get posted that are probably not true and to participate, you usually take a chance of being blasted. Frankly, I see no reason for Ford to keep up the numbers wars with GM and Dodge. Ford has engines that compete well and are actually fairly fuel-efficient in an environment of ever-increasing gas prices. Ford has some good overhead-cam engines that can compete effectively with the Japanese competition - unlike Dodge and GM.
I would like to see Ford keep up the development on these engines. I would sure like to see some weight reduction on the F-150 to make it more efficient with it's new engine. I am often critical, but also can see a way that Ford could come out of this rebate-war with the best products of the Big 3.
Hope so.
