Unhappy Air filter

Has anybody else had any luck finding an air filter for the 2004 5.4? Or is it a dealer only part right now.

air filter

I don't understand why anybody would need to replace the air filter on a new truck thats less than a year old? I say 4 years, 60K miles is when an air filter needs changed.

No stinkin' way

4 years/60K miles between air filter changes??? Are you serious?

I don't know about the rest of you, but my original filter needed changing at less than 5K. I dropped a K/N in and have had to clean it twice since. I now have a whopping 18K miles. A good rule of thumb is to check the filter at every oil change, or twice a year if you rack up miles slowly. If it, in your opinion, needs to be changed, do so.

It really depends on how you drive the truck. If you drive in the city and on the highway alot, then you can get long intervals between changes (although I must admit 60k miles is rather long either way IMO).

Somebody who drives alot off road or in alot of dust will have to change more often.

So yes, you should check your filter at least every 5-10k miles.

Do you suggest that I just leave the nasty filter in until it's so clogged I start getting codes thrown?

Snappy where on earth do you drive in Fairfax that your filter gets that dirty?

Driving around NOVA and DC you should be able to go a year or more with a K&N!

A K&N works much better when it gets dirty.

Believe it or not, just driving from Fairfax City to Burke daily. I check it every couple of months, and when it's black and gunky looking, I clean it. Maybe I'm being too **** about it, but I like clean oil, and clean filters.

air filters

Dear snappy just because the air filter looks dirty don't mean it needs changed. The only reason I change an air filter when the metal mesh part of the filter starts to rust. I have changed air filters in the past that were soooo dirty I had trouble removing it, and it never made a difference in better running performance, or better mpg the same holds true with my motorcycle, and atv, cleaning or changing an air filter makes no difference, it never runs any better.

Aren't you the guy who recommended someone squirt dish liquid into the sparkplug holes, and start the engine to cure oil burning? LOL

Yeah, and using Amsoil 0w30 oil will get you 20-30 more HP and double your gas mileage too.

I kind of agree with Moto I never really noticed a difference with a clean or dirty air filter in power running quality or mileage...

The only time I ever noticed a difference was in this old car I had it was just doggy, checking the air filter it was packed full from a mouse nest and a few dead mice... That seemed to make a difference in performance.....
