Help: Spark Plug Arcing

I am asking you guys for some information, since you are experts in so many ways.

I have some power steering problems. The pump needs replacement. I took it to a chain fix-it shop, and the mechanic has told me that in addition to the PS pump, there was spark plug arcing going on, and he needs $600 bucks to fix that. I thought that the engine was running great before I brought it to him.

This is actually on my wife's Taurus with the Duretec Engine, but while it is in the shop, SHE gets to drive my Supercrew while I have to hitch a ride with my buddies everywhere, so it is indirectly related to my truck.

Is this a snow job?

There isn't a $600 fix for spark plug arcing. I expect he was going to sell you a coil pack, wires and plugs or if COP a set of COPs and plugs. Find out what he really wants to do and let us know.

Just tell them that you had a steering problem, not a running problem. If you now have a running problem, they must fix it, because it ran fine before they worked on it. Tell them that your brother works for a Ford dealer and you'll let him know about the problem. He can get parts at cost plus ten percent and owes you a favor. I bet they'll be happy to just fix the steering pump. I haven't seen many problems with the 3.0 dohc motors at all.
