Sometimes the fuel pump relay doesn't open when cold. Have someone turn the key from off to run while you listen to the open gas cap. You should hear the fuel pump run 1 or 2 seconds and shut off. If it doesn't, tap the fuel pump relay. If that does it replace it. If you hear the pump running, this isn't it.

First check for spark, if no spark, go from there. I had a weird trouble with my 4.6. There is a little capacitor type plug on the coil mount. It is the radio suppressor plug. This thing burned out and left me stranded. This little $3.00 part killed all the spark to the coil. Mine was grey and about the size of a Bic pen cap. Hope this helps.

Check fuelpump cutoff switch under passenger side kick panel. Neighbors explorer tripped that once for no apparent reason. Easy check and dont cost nothin.
