Supercharger
I was wondering what types of engine modifications are required to safely run a supercharger on what used to be a stock unsupercharged engine... I have the 4.6, it has a **** load of miles on it but it is still runnin strong. I plan to rebuild it and if I need to do any internal mods< I just as well do em while I have the engine in peices..
Or if you dont have to have any other modifications, what is typically the safe amount of boost to run at...??

What is considered safe is about 6 psi boost but much more can be run.
When doing this, some computer program tuning is usually needed to handle the higher cylinder pressures as well as 93 octane fuel at all times.
As for an aged engine, such things as ring seal, gasket seal, oil pressure are all things that could be a problem.
You may also be concerned with emmissions inspection by using a kit that has C.A.R.B. approval for legal use in al 50 states.

The kits avialable for these trucks require no internal mods. Just bolt all the stuff on and go.
You can do other upgrades like larger fuel injectors, fuel pump and MAF, but even these aren't internal mods and they are not required with the base kits.
