Very disappointed in my new truck!

Had a problem with my new Screw Lariat on Saturday. I was heading north into VT pulling my snowmobile trailer and on the middle of a hill…. My check engine light or service light came on and my truck lost power and starting vibrating very bad!!! I let off the gas and then got back on the gas and it did it again. I had to pull the hill at 20 mph…. When I got to the top I coasted down the other side and going up the next hill it did it again. I pulled into a rest stop and waited a few mins and then its been fine…. BUT… my engine now has a ticking noise. Sounds something like a bad lifter and is pretty loud……. Truck has 1230 miles on it…. What the hell!!!

tuff luck...but dont let that get you down....that what warranty is for...

My ? is why did you just not pull over and call roadside assistance for a tow to the nearest dealer...they would of got you a different ride till they fix yours.

It's an auto. Ford doesn't offer the standard trans on this model.

Well to start you can take it to somewhere like autozone to get the codes read and come back here to figure out what is going on.

Did you hear any loud noises when the truck first started running bad?

With 1200 miles on it, it's either a brand new 05 or leftover 04. Regardless, it doesn't need to go anywhere but straight back to the dealership. Why mess with anything that went wrong before the first oil change? Whatever it is should be covered 100% by warranty along with a loaner vehicle while it is fixed. On a 1-2 year old truck with more than 12K miles I could see going to Auto Zone to figure it out first, but not on a 2 week old truck with 1200 miles.

I agree with squirrel boy...take it to the dealer. Then come back and tell us what was wrong, what they did to fix it, and if you are happy.

Hey guys-

its a left over 04, 5.4L, auto. Doesnt really sound like an exhaust leak.... more like a ticking lifter or something. Doesnt look as it blew a plug out either. Once we got back last night we tried to read the codes with my buddy x-ray.. but it will only read up to 2003... we need to get the update. I have an appointment for tomorrow morning for the dealer to look at it.

I talked to someone else that the same thing happened at 3000 miles and ford is not replacing the engine... not something I want.

according to the owners manual it was the Sercive engine soon light that flashed on the dash. It states that if it is flashing then its saying there is a misfire- However the light then went out.... its not still on any more.

I didnt call road side because I was 250 miles from home and I had a trailer......

Service engine light is often a sign of emission control issues (Especially if it flashes) Could be something like a pluged/collapsed cat-converter. What ever it is, the dealer should take care of it since it is new.

I did not know that..I wonfder why?

Definaltey let us know what you find out at the stealership..I mean dealership!

If it's not ignitions module(s) or coil pack then I think it sort of sounds a little bit like torque converter shudder. Hard to say sight unseen. But make them fix it right even if you have to stand in the middle of the shop and thow a fit like a little kid! As a not so wise man once said "Git-R-Done"!

i just went out to wash the truck off and was listening to the ticking again.... with the radio off you can hear it in the cab and its a slow tick at idle. As your bring the RMPs up the tick gets faster.... this is in drive or park. The dealer is one of the largest ford truck dealers in CT.. so hopefully they know what they are doing!! Should have bought a superduty- haha (however I absolutely LOVED the truck till this)

It was also pretty cold out- my temp readout was saying -15 out at the time. It does say in the owners manual about something with the cat? How could a cat be clogged at 1200 miles?

Also... I looked through the manual of the truck... and didnt find anything about how many miles should be on the truck before towing.... anyone know if ford has a limit writen down anywhere? I was towing about 2200lbs.
