Following engine overheat due to bad distributor which has now been replaced, the temp gauge indicator in my '86 302 EFI now rests on the "A" in normal where it previously rested on the "R'". Have replaced the temp gauge, sending unit, radiator and hoses (mechanic thinks the water pump is OK) but the temp gauge still reads higher than before the distributor problem. Could the overheat have damaged a sensor or module that is causing the engine to operate at a higher temp resulting in the "higher than previous normal" reading? Thanks.

The original overheat might have blown a head gasket or cracked a head......

To check for either, when the engine is cold, open the rad cap and start the engine. If you see air bubbles in the coolant, then it's a good chance you have one of the above situations.....
