howling noises
The power-steering box has been a problem in the past , thats been substantiated..
I don't know about the wheel bearing being the prob - they heat up so fast it would only be a couple of cold seconds there. The dealerships default as it being normal because of the TSB I posted in the the rear ends section.
BUT, Ford also posted a fix in yet another TSB for the howling problem that the dealerships tend to frown upon. I posted that in the rear end section as well. You only get it fixed if you b^tch about it to your dealership or get upset , or maybe mention the TSB to get any action..

On my '03 5.4, had a howling noise similar to the sound of blowing in an empty beer bottle. Ended up being IAC valve-replaced under warranty. On my brothers 03 Supercrew 5.4, had a howling noise, deeper pitch, also similar to blowing into a beer bottle, but as I stated, much deeper. Brother took it into the dealer, tech heard the sound, knew immediately right were to go, it was the belt tensioner. No problems on either ever since.
