High Idle
High Idle
2001 F150 4.6 automatic 80k miles. Throttle sticking at high rpm 2500. This has happened three times now; first two times it stuck at 1100. I turned the truck off and restarted thinking this might clear the problem, all that happened was a service engine code, probably due to high idle. When I kicked it down the way I would with a choke, it went down to normal, any ideas.
I'd guess that you have a sticking throttle cable. Did it not go back down to idle after driving? It could be the throttle body sticking, cleaning it could help. Does it ever stick at idle so you feel it jump down when you push on the accellerator?
But the IAC also goes into throttle following mode off idle. It could be sticking open and kicking it down is just commanding it more open then more close.

I can't narrow it down from here. Either seems possible, although I like the cable/throttle body. For long term lube it's not the best, but for freeing up something sticky, I'm a diehard WD-40 man. I bought the first can I ever saw.
