heater core question

Not sure where to post this question, sorry.
My 1997 f150 2wd has a leaking heater core, I think. It is putting out radiator fluid smells through the vents when using the a/c and heater together. My question is does anyone or has anyone replaced there heater core? I beleive you have to take the entire dash board apart to get to it. Any information about this would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Unhappy

The shop techs have a step-by-step guide from some of their service manuals. An friend got them for me when I had to do mine. Unfortunately I have moved a couple of times and have lost the directions. They are extremely helpful and made the job quite tolerable and not a nightmare.

Buy a shop guy a few beers and see what they can do for you. I'm still looking for mine.

Scott...

Go to your local library and look in the reference section for shop manuals on your vehicle. Here in Windsor we have them for all the BIG 3. They are Helm manuals too! If you can not locate a manual e-mail me and I will see what I can do.

Heater Core Replacement

I had the same thing happen to me, and the dealer wanted $850.00.

To replace the Heater Core ($59.00) you must remove the entire DASH - out of the cab......

The first time I did it, it took me two (2) full days. Ford says it takes 6-8 hours for the repair. They are not joking.

Now that I have done it, I could do it in one day.

I have a set of Dealer Shop Manuals for the '97 F-150. I'll look up the procedure and try to post the info tomarrow.

I really shouldn't be spending my time looking around here tonight anyway, as I've spent the last several days plowing snow. I just love thoughs 20 hour work days.
