Which fluid to use?

Which fluid to use?

I have been adding Dextron III Mercon in my tranny... the dipstick just says use MERCON nothing about Dextron III... but ive been told by many sources that it is the same thing... and my tranny works fine as far as i know..been in there for a month... anyone here know if that is correct? please... only educated opinons.. lol cant take a "it should work" lol i need someone who knows these transmissions well to say "hell yeah... thats the right fluid" LOL

I believe Dextron is Chevy's specified transmission fluid spec.

I dont know if they are compatible...

Are you sure it dosen't say "mercon V"? Is it a 4r70w?

I'm 99% sure you should be using mercon V (mercon 5). It is expensive, but that is because it is a synthetic blend and has special friction modifiers and other additives specially formulated for newer transmissions.

im 101% positive it doesnt say mercon V... unless somehow the V evaporated without a trace. I have heard that dextron III is a universal fluid... i just talked to Ford, and they said that Ford Mercon is just an upgrade for newer vehicles.... and that dextron III is the same thing... thanks a lot for the help guys
