Oh, I don't question the fact that the temp gauge will move up and down as the truck warms up...... I see that happen every day.....

It's just the fact that when the engine gets hotter then 200* and the dash gauge was still in the same "normal" spot it always is, that's when I call it an idiot light with a needle on it.

I think I heard that when it actaully does start to rise, it's over 220* and I think it just goes into the red and that's what triggers the "overheat limp mode".

I've never liked Ford gauges anyway..... Like I said above, the most you can do is compare your temps with other Fords and say that my temp is on the R and my pressure is on the M........

I was never really sure if the gauges in my '86 5.0 GT were real or fake either...... Every now and then all of them would rise and lower in unison!! Found it was due to some regulator up inside the dash, but never fixed it....

I totaly agree Ford has never made an acurate guage in my opinion I have a 70 ford f100 and those factory guages hardly ever move exept the gas guage falls like a rock!!!! The cheapest aftermarket guage ever made is better than the oem "INDACTOR"
On my 2001 when I was adjusting the on settings for my E fans the guage would rise past its normal spot when the temp got uo to 200 to 220 Iwas monetering temps with Auto Tap scanner, past that temp I can not vouche for what the guage doe and I hope I never find out!!!!

Funny how the handle 'chickenbone' discribes the person for real.

Huh?

As you may be able to tell from the scenario I described at the beginning of the thread, I may be a little slow at times... but I don't get how 'chickenbone' describes a person not checking his oil....chicken'bone-head' I get, but just 'chickenbone'
