ok....
ok....
since nobody reads the section for transmissions.... lol ill just post it here.... i have the issue on my 97 F150 4.6L auto trannie... that 1 month ago when the tranny fluid was low, i added a quart to bring it to normal operating level... now 1 month later, its exactly 1 quart low again... and the only leak i see seems to be leaving transmission fluid on the heads of the tranny pan bolts. The pan itself its pretty nasty, but its all mostly old stuff... the entire undercarriage is clean on the motor side. I even pulled the little plug out of the torque converter shield to see if it was leaking from there, and its dry as a bone. I tightened the bolts a little today, they took about 1/4 to 1/2 a turn with a slight amount of pressure... still not able to tighten by hand (by ANY means lol) took a little pressure to turn em, but nothing dangerous to the point of stripping threads, or even tweaking the pan. Since i did this about 20 mins ago, i cant say if it worked or not... just crossing my fingers and hoping.... Could this just be the pan gasket?
If youre truck is a 4x4 pull the plug out of the transfercase and see if it is overfull. There is a double seal at the front of the transfercase that keeps the trans fluid in the trans and the tranfercase fluid in the tranfercase. If you have that big of an external leak the underside of the truck should be soaked.
i know its not coming from the rear, because there are little to no drips on my driveway... which is slanted uphill... so if it were, chances are i would have seen it by now.. i think its coming from the front of the pan. its a 2WD so no transfer case (thank god...)
