I figured I ask here too and see if I might get a better response.
The solenoid has 4 posts. One to the battery, one to the starter, one that has the letter "I" by it and one that has the letter"S" by it. I'm assuming the letter "I" stands for ignition and the letter "S" stands for starter.

Question #1- Which post hooks up on the solenoid that has a letter, "I" or "S"? and does the other need to be hooked up.
Question #2- Is it true that I can turn the key backwards and pull the ignition switch out of the steering column?

It sounds like a starter. You should still hear the remote solenoid on the firewall clicking though.Check and make sure it's hooked up correctly so you havn't created another problem. It must also ground to the fender,so make sure the bolts are clean and tight, and not stripped. They tend to strip, being self tapping, and it won't get a good ground. The replacement solenoid may also have two small terminals. One marked "S",and one marked "I".You need to make sure the small wire is on the "S" terminal.
