98 5.4 Piston Slap
98 5.4 Piston Slap
I just read your postings on the piston slap lawsuit. I'm assuming that it is way too late now to do anything, but at the end of last winter, I bought a used '98 F150 SuperCab 3 Dr, with the famous 5.4 Trition V8. I have, this winter, noticed a rattling/knocking noise from the engine compartment which sounds very much like what you are describing. It starts coincident with engine startup in colder temperatures, and lasts maybe twenty seconds or so and goes away, or at least to the point where it is less noticeable. Is there anything I can do at this point, 5 years after your original postings, to have this problem fixed? There is approx. 77,000 miles on the vehicle, and I am 1 year into the payments.
I know how Ford is in getting them to help pay for their flaws, I traded in a 95 Thunderbird for the truck, but not before I paid for a blown head gasket job, which, Surprise Surprise!!!, was a Ford flaw I was told that it was not a safety issue that's why it was a bulletin, and NOT a recall.
So, I potentially traded in a flawed Ford for another one. Nice.
Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Is there a service bulletin to fix this problem or am I too late?
Do I get rid of the truck?
Thanks
Mike
