Po401

Well, I'm new to this forum and definitely not a mechanic. I can figure things out given enough time though. From what I've read, I think my DPFE is bad. I am getting PO401 and PO402 repeated in succession. I bought a DPFE, but I haven't been able to find where it is. It is an 01 f150 4.6. Can someone tell me where to look under the hood to find the DPFE?

Or, do I just need to take the tb off and give it a good cleaning. I took off the egr and there was very little carbon in the ports.

Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

I'm not sure I understand the question. If you are asking whick question am I asking first, it is "Where is the DPFE located under the hood?"

The DPFE can be located in one of 2 places. The older style sensor is silver in color and about 3x5 inches and attaches to the throttle body on the driver's side. The newer style is black in color and about 1x2 inches and is located on the driver's side just in front of the firewall. It has 2 little tubes protruding from the underside of it. These 2 tubes attach to 2 longer tubes that end up on the pipe that leads to the egr valve. More than likely, #2 is what you have. This is what my 01 4.6 had. For my truck, replacing it corrected a P0402 code. You can purchase the DPFE at the dealer for about $35.00.
Another thing to check would be the egr ports inside the elbow that the throttle body attaches to. You can not see these ports even if you remove the throttle body because they are on the underside of the elbow. To check them, you have to remove the elbow and turn it upside down.

Hope this helps you out.
